急峻な山々が連なり、豊かな水に恵まれた、世界自然遺産の島・屋久島。

「MARS The Y.A.」は、駒ヶ岳・津貫のモルト原酒を、この島にあるマルス屋久島エージングセラーで熟成させたジャパニーズウイスキーです。

「#05」はバーボンバレルで熟成されたモルト原酒を中心にヴァッティングし、『水の島』と呼ばれる屋久島の森の間を翔る穏やかな潮風、その中にほんのりと、しかし確実に存在を感じる白煙のニュアンス。
そして柿やりんごのグラッセを思わせるフルーティな余韻の中にチョコレートも僅かに見つけることができます。
コク深く長い余韻がお楽しみいただける1本です。

「前作の＃04と比べるとピート感は抑えめと感じます。ヨード香が強かった＃04と比べ＃05は白煙のようなスモーキーさがあります。
またこのY.A.#05は驚くほど飲み方によって味わいが全く別のものになります。
スモーキー感を楽しみたいならトゥワイスアップやハイボールがおすすめ。ストレートはモルトの持つ甘みをより深く味わえます。ただ個人的にはロックでは柔らかな白煙のニュアンスが消えてしまう印象でした。」

MARS The Y.A. is a Japanese whisky matured in the island’s unique climate at the Mars Yakushima Aging Cellar, using malt whiskies distilled at both Komagatake and Tsunuki.

For #05, the focus is on bourbon barrel-aged malts, carefully vatted to capture the character of Yakushima itself:
the gentle sea breeze drifting through deep cedar forests, carrying a faint yet unmistakable wisp of white smoke.

Beneath that delicate smokiness lies a rich fruitiness reminiscent of glazed persimmon and candied apple, followed by subtle hints of chocolate lingering through the finish.
Deep, layered, and beautifully long on the palate, this is a whisky that slowly reveals itself with every sip.

“Compared to the previous #04 release, the peat feels more restrained here.
Where #04 leaned heavily into iodine-rich coastal notes, #05 expresses a softer, white-smoke style of smokiness.

What surprised me most is how dramatically the character changes depending on how you drink it.
For a fuller smoky profile, I highly recommend it in a highball or with a splash of water (twice up).
Neat, the whisky reveals a much deeper malt sweetness.
Personally, though, I found the delicate white-smoke nuance fades a little over ice.”
